BUTTERWORTH: The Health Ministry warned the public against using contact lenses bought in night markets or beauty salons as the lenses can blind users. Minister Datuk Seri Dr Liow Tiong Lai said users should undergo an eye examination with optometrists before using the lenses.
“The ministry will convene a meeting to find solutions to the excessive sales of contact lenses, especially in night markets.” He said this after opening the Chinese New Year carnival in Bagan parliamentary constituency here yesterday. He was commenting on a report that stated that more contact lenses could be bought cheaply in night markets. However, he said the ministry had yet to receive reports on the matter. Liow said: “We are aware that many contact lenses, especially coloured ones, can be bought easily and cheaply, including in night markets.” So, I advise the public not to buy those contact lenses because we don’t know whether the lenses will fit comfortably in their eyes.” Bernama
